Working With Us

York Community Consulting (YCC) is a pro bono business management consultancy firm at the University of York. We aim to make a positive social impact on the local community, clients and beyond, achieving this through our professional, innovative and thorough consultancy work.

YCC has an excellent track record with previous clients, and you can view some of the amazing work we have completed on our case studies page. We bring new perspectives and solutions to a range of organisations, including: small and medium-sized enterprises, charities, start-ups, and local government.

Each of our project teams are well-guided, as they will be assigned an External Mentor, a Project Manager and a team of well-mentored consultants to ensure that the services we provide are of the highest standard.

As mentioned in the services we provide, those are ones we are best suited to, although we are not limited to those particular sectors.

By having a pool of talented consultants at YCC, we are not limited in the approaches we can take in our range of projects. We approach each project with enthusiasm, flexibility, and innovation to deliver high quality, professional services.

Project Questions

Information about our new projects will be communicated on our website, social media profiles, and where possible, department emails or career team notifications. To view opportunities related to current projects, please check our vacancies page.

For specific information about a project, such as outlines and client information, we will make these available when we release our project vacancies. We further encourage you to conduct your own research on the clients and project area prior to your application.

External Mentors are responsible for ensuring that each project is delivered on time and to a high standard, and to guide you through the project's progress. Our External Mentors are experienced industry professionals and are often YCC Alumni.

Joining YCC

YCC project team members and committee positions are purely voluntary. Whilst our roles are unpaid, the professional experience and skills learnt from YCC are a valuable addition to your CV.

No, anyone can apply to join us, as long as they study at the University of York! We appreciate a diverse range of disciplines within our project teams. The skills you will learn at YCC are transferable to many career paths.

Your project teams are expected to include 6 Consultants, including 1 Senior Consultant. Your team will also include a Project Manager to support you, oversee the work, and communicate with clients.

We expect Consultants to work around 8 hours a week and Senior Consultants around 10 hours a week.
